"Magical nights in the city"

One important part of spending the Summer in Barcelona is going out at nights. There are many proposals for all preferences, that include restaurants on the beach, typical Catalan/Spanish food, and also some places that offer something more than good food... We have been moving around and chosen two proposals that really will show you a good part of Barcelona nights, and not only for the food...

Capritx: Fridays with good music

This Catalan word means "caprice", and the expression is used in many places in Catalonia and Spain to express something you do to indulge yourself (different but interesting meaning, don´t you think?)
And this was the idea of Sergio and Eva Massó, brother and sister who nearly two years ago started this nice place in Barcelona.
You enter the restaurant and find a long bar that offers breakfasts and the coffee for the mid-morning break most people have in Barcelona. Then you have the tables, with all you need for a nice lunch or dinner… And everything in a very nice atmosphere, in a space that was designed by a French painter.
They have a good menu option for midday and they also have the option of a special menu for weekday nights. Their list of options includes different types of meat, fish, seafood and vegetables, all in original combinations and excellent presentation. They change many of the dishes every 6 months.
But not only the food is good in Capritx: they have a special proposal for Friday nights. At midnight, the lights go down, creating an intimate surrounding: the small stage opens its curtains and you can enjoy live music. They started with jazz, but nowadays they have a different proposal every Friday, from tango to jazz, from eighties pop to “boleros”.
And one good thing is that they don´t charge anything extra for the show; the idea is to have a longer “sobremesa” (that means to stay sitting at the table after eating), enjoying excellent live music. You can also go at midnight to have a drink and enjoy the show.
We were there one jazz night, with Francesc Burrull (piano) and Inma Ortiz (voice). It´s really something to see them on stage, especially Burrull, who is one of the most important Catalan/Spanish pianists. Among other many things, he played with Joan Manuel Serrat for many years.

The best definition of the Capritx quality and proposal comes from its owner´s mouth “I finally have the restaurant which would have myself as a very good client”.

Eterna: the queens of the night

This is a proposal with glamour, no doubt about it. Apart form the good food and tasty desserts they offer a continuous Drag Queen show, from Thursday to Saturday, starting at 10 pm and until midnight.
When you arrive at the corner in which Eterna is situated, you can´t really imagine what is waiting for you inside…
The space is really big for a restaurant in Barcelona. They can have up to 450 people per night, in a very elegant atmosphere. You can also buy some of their merchandising products in a shop they have at the entrance.
They also have some special services: apart from booking a table from Thursday to Saturday nights, you can book the place for groups from 70 people nearly any other night. They close the restaurant for you and can even adapt the show for your celebration. They also offer menus for midday, with good food and prices.
But their main attraction are their special nights… You trespass the curtain (literally) and find out a parallel universe: everything in Eterna nights is glamour, sparks and feathers. They have five artists who perform an opening show, and then one of them –Coral- speaks to the people, making them laugh and asking what are they celebrating. It´s really something to see them reacting!
The show goes on with individual performances, groups of three artists and quite a “finale” for a different night.
They change the main shows once a year, and the individual parts are always a surprise…
